Boiled Fish for Dog Stomach Pain

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 fillets of white fish (such as cod, tilapia, or haddock) or salmon (fresh, not canned)
  • 2 cups of water (for boiling)
  • A pinch of salt (optional, but recommended for flavor enhancement)
  • Fresh parsley (optional garnish, finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil (optional, for added nutrients and flavor)
  • A pinch of turmeric (optional, can help with inflammation)

Instructions

Prepare the Fish

  1. Rinse the Fish: Begin by rinsing the fish fillets under cold water to remove any impurities. If you’re using salmon, you can remove the skin if preferred, although keeping it on can provide additional nutrients.
  2. Cut the Fish into Smaller Pieces: Depending on your dog’s size, you can cut the fish into smaller, bite-sized pieces to make it easier for them to consume.
  3. Bring Water to a Boil: In a medium saucepan, add 2 cups of water and bring it to a gentle boil over medium heat. If you prefer to add a pinch of salt or a dash of turmeric to the water, you can do so at this stage.

Boil the Fish

  1. Add the Fish to the Boiling Water: Once the water is boiling, carefully place the fish pieces into the saucepan. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook for 10-12 minutes until the fish is fully cooked and tender. You’ll know it’s done when the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  2. Optional Additions: If you want to make the dish even more nutritious, drizzle a tablespoon of olive oil over the cooked fish for extra healthy fats, or sprinkle a small amount of finely chopped parsley for added flavor and nutrients.

Cool and Serve

  1. Allow the Fish to Cool: After the fish is cooked, remove it from the saucepan and let it cool to a comfortable temperature. It’s essential to avoid serving the fish too hot, as this could harm your dog’s mouth or digestive system.
  2. Serve to Your Dog: Once the fish has cooled, serve the pieces in a shallow dish or bowl, making sure to remove any bones. Fish bones can be dangerous to dogs, so ensure you check thoroughly.
  3. Monitor Your Dog: While your dog is enjoying the meal, keep an eye on their reaction. Boiled fish is a gentle meal, but it’s important to see how your dog’s stomach responds, especially if this is their first time having it.
