2 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each, skinless and boneless)
1 cup fresh broccoli florets (steamed or lightly boiled)
1 cup cooked quinoa or rice (for a healthy carbohydrate source)
1 tablespoon olive oil (for healthy fats)
1/4 teaspoon turmeric (optional, for anti-inflammatory properties)
1/4 teaspoon ginger powder (optional, to aid digestion)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, in moderation and safe for dogs)
1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped, optional for added freshness and digestion)
Instructions
Prepare the Ingredients
Cook the Quinoa or Rice: Start by cooking the quinoa or rice according to the package instructions. Use 1 cup of uncooked quinoa or rice for about 2 cups of cooked grains, which will be the base of your dog’s meal. Let it cool to room temperature.
Prepare the Broccoli: Cut the broccoli into small florets and steam or boil them until they’re tender (about 5-7 minutes). Be sure not to overcook the broccoli to retain its nutrients. Allow it to cool before serving.
Cook the Salmon: Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Lightly drizzle olive oil and place the salmon fillets in the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until the salmon is fully cooked and flakes easily with a fork. You can also bake or grill the salmon if preferred, but avoid using any seasoning, salt, or oils that may be harmful to your dog. Once cooked, remove the skin and bones, and break the salmon into small, bite-sized pieces.
Assemble the Meal
Combine the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cooled quinoa or rice, steamed broccoli, and the flaked salmon. Stir them gently to mix the ingredients together, ensuring the salmon and broccoli are evenly distributed throughout.
Add the Olive Oil: Drizzle the olive oil over the mixture to add healthy fats, which are good for your dog’s coat, skin, and overall health.
Optional Additions: If desired, you can sprinkle in the turmeric, ginger powder, and garlic powder (in moderation) for added health benefits. Add parsley for a fresh flavor boost and extra antioxidants.
Serve: Once everything is mixed well, portion the meal according to your dog’s size. Smaller dogs may only need a few spoonfuls, while larger dogs may need a full serving. You can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
